Nike to Drop Retro Air Max Triax 96 in Two OG Colorways
“Varsity Royal” and “University Red” return 23 years later.
Nike has recently revitalized its cult classics, making the return of the Air Max Triax 96 no surprise. The classic silhouette showcases the timeless details runners were drawn to during the 1996 Olympic Games, while featuring the same iconic shape, materials and visible Air unit. This time, Nike brings back two OG colorways, “Varsity Royal” and “University Red,” of the heritage-geared lifestyle classic.
The retro blue “Varsity Royal” sneaker sports a lightweight black mesh upper with smooth white leather and black suede overlays. Blue accents are found in the Swoosh, lacing system, tongue and midsole. The contrasting “University Red” sneaker features a red mesh upper with similar tonal and textural overlays. Like the “Gym Red” silhouette that was released earlier this month, the sneakers feature Triax text hits on the tongue’s pull tabs and insole’s banners, and a slimmed-down heel Air Max unit. Small leather Swoosh logos adorn the mesh toe boxes.
Starting December 4 at 10 a.m. EST, the “Varsity Royal” and “University Red” sneakers will be available to purchase on Nike’s website for $130 USD.
