Perfume Genius Delivers an Emotional Cover of Empress Of's "When I'm With Him"
The harmonious result of an LA pop songstress meeting Seattle’s swooning rising star.
Late last year Empress Of released “When I’m With Him”, an uptempo pop-synth tune reminiscent of the likes of HAIM. Today, Lorely Rodriguez has joined forces with Perfume Genius.
The previously enthusiastic track has been manipulated, softened and blessed by the vocals of Mike Hadreas, the man behind the Perfume Genius name, offering a song completely reimagined for 2019.
Working together with the original co-producer Jim-E Stack, Perfume Genius’ official cover looks to 80s love ballads for deeper percussion, softer synth tones and a typically Perfume Genius delivery of delicate yet punchy vocals.
The track is backed up by Rodriguez herself with the two artists complementing each other’s vocals, offering a harmonious dynamic that tells the story of suddenly understanding an unhealthy relationship.
Just as hard-hitting as before but with a softer delivery, you can swoon over Perfume Genius’ cover on both Spotify and Apple Music.
