iPad Battery Explodes at Apple Amsterdam Store Causing Evacuation
No major injuries but its another “battery burn” incident this year at an Apple store.

Amsterdam’s Apple store just experienced a battery explosion from an overheated iPad battery according to reports. As a result, the outpost has been evacuated and officially ordered to temporarily close. The iPad and punctured battery in question actually released possibly harmful substances into the air which was secured by Apple employees by placing it in a container of sand. Three workers actually suffered some difficulty breathing but no major injuries were reported. After the explosion, no fire or smoke was also reported.
Today’s accident has no ties with iPhone’s battery replacement program according to 9to5Mac, although this isn’t the first time this year that an Apple battery “burning” has caused evacuations at other locations — Switzerland and Spain stores also experienced similar incidents which also resulted in evacuations and minor injuries.
