ASCISTIGER, Foot Locker Europe and creative agency Visionarism unveiled their latest collaboration in London last night, presenting the HyperGEL‐LYTE and HyperGEL‐KAN silhouettes for the first time at Foot Locker’s recently opened flagship store in London’s Marble Arch. To celebrate this, sneakerheads were treated to an in-depth Q&A session between Asics design team members Milton Cato and Hiroyuki Ogi and Visionarism founders Thierry Tek and Ste Wing. They discussed their individual approaches to design, how the collab came about and their experience creating the shoe. As well as the panel talk, special guests consisting of Visionarism friends and family were able to get their first close-up look at the silhouette.
The creation of the shoe saw Visionarism travelling to the Foot Locker HQ in New York and the streets of Tokyo, to get to grips with the legacy and heritage of ASICSTIGER. This inspiration helped Visionarism add its own spin to the next evolution of the HyperGEL range, drawing on the concept of the “urban ninja” and the traditional Japanese ‘Sumi stroke’ art technique. The Gel-Lyte model keeps the shoe’s characteristic design elements, whilst deploying a lighter, more comfortable midsole, whereas the new HyperGEL-KAN model introduces an external heel counter to protect against impact and increase support.
Both the black and white colorways are available now on Foot Locker stores across Europe, retailing at £114.99 GBP (approximately $147 USD).
