For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with juggernaut electric music talent Afrojack to talk about the difference between EDM and Techno plus discuss how dance music differs in the U.S. and overseas in Europe.

When asked about the how EDM and Techno differ, Afrojack explains how their both a part of electric music but have two very distinct sounds and production. “Techno is like eight to 12-minute songs played on like 124, 125 BPMs so you can enjoy it for a longer time,” Afrojack says. He continues, “Techno is a more relaxed version or storying telling version of EDM music. The people in techno always like to think of they are a step ahead of EDM, they are always like, ‘Yeah you don’t get it,’ you have to get it.”

You can check out our entire Conversations With episode with Afrojack above. The Dutch DJ is fresh off his killer performance at EDC and currently traveling around the world for round one of his Global Vocal Battle Auditions, looking for the next big pop star.
