Spotify is starting to test a new feature — “Sponsored Songs.” Currently, the feature allows labels to promote singles on playlists for a price. According to TechCrunch, the “Sponsored Song” ad unit is “a product test for labels to promote singles on the free tier.” If the tests are successful, Sponsored Songs would officially roll out, but only to users on the free tier. There is an “opt-out” option found under Sponsored Content in the settings menu, which allows users to hide such contents from view. However, it is unclear whether this option would appear to the service’s free users. Learn more about Sponsored Songs via TechCrunch.
