Kendrick Lamar Reveals Why He Bought His Sister a Toyota
Critics felt the rapper should’ve gotten something pricier.
Kendrick Lamar copped his little sister Kayla Duckworth a 2017 Toyota sedan as a graduation gift earlier this month. After his sister — who appeared grateful for the gift — posted a photo of the car on Instagram, the Compton rapper was bombarded with criticism from people who believed that he was making too much money to have gotten her a Toyota.
Kendrick appeared on Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Real 92.3 for a conversation, and on top of revealing the original title of DAMN. and his top five emcees, the rapper also addressed the aforementioned topic in the interview. “I don’t know if it’s the public or it’s kids on the Internet that’s 12 years old and 13 and figured, you know, she’s supposed to have a Lamborghini by Kendrick Lamar,” K-Dot said. “Yeah, it’s a trip.”
He continues: “You know, people’s perspective of me and the money that I have and the stages and places I’ve gone to, they probably expect me not to have the same morals and values that I have. I want to carry over to my family, to my little sister or whatnot, ’cause she’s younger than me so she didn’t have to go through the same struggle that me and moms had to go through.”
Big Boy then went to respond by saying that he got his nieces tickets to BET weekend and that there would be no way he would get them Toyota cars for their presents. Watch the interview above.
