After a lengthy absence away from the box-office spotlight, Jim Carrey returns to the big screen in the upcoming thriller, Dark Crimes. The Alexandros Avranas-directed flick chronicles the story of a police officer named Tadek, played by Carrey, who tries his hand at unraveling an unsolved murder case, which he discovers bears a striking resemblance to that of a famous novel by author Krystov Kozlow.

Setting out on a mission to link the author to the heinous crime, Tadek finds himself entranced by Kozlow and his sex club worker girlfriend. Dark Crimes will make its way to DIRECTV on April 19, shortly followed by its theatre opening on May 11. In the meantime, check out the trailer above to catch Carrey in action.

In case you missed it, a new Lord of the Rings book, The Fall of Gondolin, is releasing this year.
