Tyler, the Creator Made "Yonkers" Beat in Eight Minutes, Interviews Vince Staples
There wasn’t much to it.

Tyler, the Creator’s GOLF Media App recently aired an interview featuring Vince Staples. The Long Beach artist talks about how young people begin to appreciate things like art and culture, and how it usually originates from hanging out with friends or music and movies. The conversation eventually led to Tyler talking about how he conceived the beat of one of his biggest songs, “Yonkers.” Well apparently, there wasn’t much to it. Listen to the clip above.
“N*ggas don’t know that that beat was made as a joke. I was trying to make a sh*tty New York beat and we was just rapping like we was from New York like we were retarded. And then, I just had some random verses and I was just like ‘I’ll just record it to this beat, this beat is kinda cool.’ And then n*ggas really liked it. That’s so nuts, because that shit was actually a fucking joke. I made that beat in literally eight minutes.”
