This is the Eagles’ first Super Bowl title, ending the Patriots’ five-win streak and preventing what would have been Tom Brady’s sixth championship. The last time the Eagles and Patriots met in a Super Bowl was 13 years ago, with the Patriots taking the win by a mere three points. Quarter 1: Eagles lose the coin toss, but start with the ball. The first quarter begins with a Gronkowski false start, giving the first playoff penalty against the New England offense. Foles and Jeffery lock in a 34-yard score that was the longest touchdown pass the Patriots have allowed since the opening week of the season, giving the Eagles a 9-3 lead at the end of quarter one.
Quarter 2: Early in the second quarter, Patriots wideout Brandin Cooks rules out for the rest of the game after taking a big hit from Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins. Gronk receives a pass from Brady — with eight plays, 75 yards and four completions — landing a touchdown for the Patriots. Clement catches a smooth running pass from Foles, scoring a touchdown for the Eagles. Brady passes to Hogan, who closes in on 400 yards and scores to make it a 3-point game. Third quarter score: Eagles 29, Patriots 26.
Quarter 4: Fourth quarter begins with Eagles extending their lead to 32-26. Gronk scores touchdown, bringing Patriots to first lead of the game at 33-32. Foles passes to Ertz, scoring a touchdown for Eagles. After play review, the score is: Eagles 38, Patriots 33. The Eagles recover on a sack-fumble from Brady, leading after a successful field goal with 41-33 ahead of the Pats. The Eagles win the 52nd Super Bowl.
