Jil Sander’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection focused on preserving humanity for the future. While a daunting concept, at the core of creative directors Lucie and Luke Meier’s thinking is the acceptance of change while retaining this humanity. To express this, the collection played with a crossing of futuristic shapes and styles that highlighted the realities of being human.
The collection placed comfort at the forefront, utilizing asymmetrical hemlines and inner linings and layers to create a sense of safety. As a nod to the future, hardware echoing astronaut suits were presented in aluminium and copper. Meanwhile, shoes and handbags were crafted in sharp silhouettes, but softened with nylons, padded leathers and velvets.
