Did The Weeknd Plagiarize "The Hills"?
The artist and his team has been hit with a copyright infringement suit.

The Weeknd has just been hit with a copyright infringement suit over his hit song “The Hills.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Hills” producer Million Dollar Mano had sent a film composer a Twitter message acknowledging a sample. The film in question is an obscure release in 2013 entitled The Machine, which follows a plot centered around cyborgs created in a war against China. Its score was produced by Tom Raybould, who supposedly received the following message from Million Dollar Mano:
“I sampled your music might make it 2 the weeknd next album. Huge fan of what u did 4 the machine movie!”
Allegedly, the songs are similar in the way that “both the Infringing Song and the Track featuring synthesizer bass-lines performed with almost identical idiosyncratic sounds at the same register and using the same pitch sequence, melodic phase structure and rhythmic durations.” Check out the entire complaint here.
Nevertheless, The Weeknd was just nominated for a variety of GRAMMY awards.
