The Innovationen Tower by OMA Opens in Stockholm
A tribute to Brutalism.

The Innovationen Tower by OMA Architects has just opened in Stockholm. As part of the firms ongoing Norra Tornen project, the 125-meter residential tower is the largest tower in the city and was developed around the Nobel Prize-winning Karolisnka Institute of medicine. The tower features 182 modular units which range from a 44-square metre one-bedroom, up to a 271-square metre penthouse suite.
The most prominent and unique design features are the alternating bay windows and recessed terraces — a nod towards Sweden’s long history with Brutalist architecture. To combat the country’s short days and long nights, large floor-to-ceiling windows allow for maximum sunlight to enter each home. The Innovationen Tower is just the first part of OMA Architect’s Norra Tornen development, and we can expect the second tower, The Helix, to open at the end of 2019.
In other architecture news, Zaha Hadid Architects will construct a futuristic city in Russia.
