Hypetrak’s Weekly Set – Volume 35

Happy (belated) Halloween and welcome back to the latest edition of Hypetrak’s Weekly Set-series. 8 more days until the release of KiD CuDi’s sophomore offering Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager and judging by the heavy response to his song “Marijuana” the anticipation could not get any bigger. The melodic ode to the fine herb was produced by frequent collaborator Dot Da Genius, thus leaving the listener wondering whatever happened to the announced collaboration album between these two gentlemen. It comes as no surprise that the latest installment of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Friday-series has drawn plenty of attention among our readers. Produced by the incomparable Pete Rock, “The Joy” was another excellent exhibition of an impressive line-up – Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, KiD CuDi over a Curtis Mayfield-sample? Satisfaction guaranteed. In addition, Lupe Fiasco gave us a first look at his upcoming and almost never happening Lasers-album in the shape of the emotive track “The Show Goes On”. Lupe offers a different flow over the rhythmic arrangement of the beat. Canadian duo Crystal Castles surprised us with an unlikely collaboration with Robert Smith. Titled “Not In Love”, the song finds The Cure-frontman sounding livelier than ever. The Top Five is concluded by some of Chicago’s finest artist’s. Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson and Common join forces over a No I.D.-beat in order to support highschool sport with the motivating “We Can Do It Now”.
Further favorites among our readers consist of Nicki Minaj’s and Eminem Swizz Beatz-produced “Roman’s Revenge”, Rza’s latest Wu Wednesday-inspired GraveDiggaz reunion “2 More Cups Of Blood”, Cee-Lo Green metropolitan second single “Bright Lights Bigger City”, J. Cole’s superb reference track of Dirty Money’s “I’m Coming Home” and Jamie Foxx and Drizzy’s soulful collaboration “Fall For Your Type”.
Last week also saw a large number of interesting video releases – Diplo and Lil Jon’s “U Don’t Like Me”, will.i.am and Nicki Minaj’s “Check It Out”, a new trailer/music video from Tron:Legacy utlizing Daft Punk ‘s “Derezzed”, Lykke Li’s “Get Some”, Nicki Minaj’s second video in a row “Right Through Me”, Diddy’s “Loving You No More” , Bilal and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s rendition of “Tainted Love”, Deftones’ artistic “You’ve Seen The Butcher”, T.I.’s double release “Ya Hear Me”/”Get Yo Girl”, Robyn’s “Indestructible”, legendary Souls Of Mischief “Won One” , Cassius’ iPhone-inspired “I Love You So” and The Streets’ “Trust Me”.
As far as mixtapes are concerned we have presented the superb Paradise Falls-project by Mansions On The Moon. The musical trio has bright future within the music industry ahead of them, so make sure to be on the lookout. Also have listen to Gorillaz’ iTunes-session.
