A Tribe Called Quest Gets Their First No. 1 Album in 20 Years
The crew also holds a new world record.
A Tribe Called Quest hit the number one spot with their latest comeback album We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service. The last time this feat was accomplished by the group, the spot was held by their 1996 studio LP, Beats, Rhymes and Life. The group now holds a world record for longest gap between number one albums released by a hip-hop act. The previous record is held by Atlanta rapper Jeezy, who had an eight year gap between The Recession in 2008 and Trap or Die 3 earlier this month. While originally projected to debut at number one with 120,000 album equivalent units sold, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service surpassed expectations by moving 135,000 units.
