Dev Hynes Confirms a New Blood Orange Album Is Coming
It’s “78 percent done.”

After releasing a new single back in September, Dev Hynes has now confirmed that a new Blood Orange album is in the works. Speaking at the New Yorker Festival, Hynes described the follow-up to 2016’s Freetown Sound as “78 percent done.” Hynes also explained about the themes on the album, with growing up in England being a particular focus: “A lot of the new songs on the new album deal with growing up and childhood in England, looking at the country that made me.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Hynes discussed the racism he faced growing up as the son of two immigrants in Essex, a county just outside of London. “It’s one of the only places in England where the BNP, which is the British National Party, aka the racist party – “Keep Britain white” was one of their campaigns – were constantly elected in power.”
There’s no news yet on a title or release information for the project, but keep checking back for more news on the album. In the meantime, refresh your memory of the short film that Hynes released earlier this year.
