Flying Lotus & Shinichiro Watanabe Team-Up on "Blade Runner 2022"
The “Cowboy Bebop” creator enlists some serious help.
As excitement builds for the upcoming release of Blade Runner 2049, an animated short film has been announced that will bridge the gap between the original’s 2019 setting and the timing of the new release. This will be the third film explaining the premise of Blade Runner 2049, with 2036: Nexus Dawn starring Jared Leto and 2048: Nowhere to Run already being released.
The latest short film, titled Blade Runner 2022, is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe — best known for working on “Cowboy Bebop” — and comes complete with a soundtrack from controversial LA-based musician Flying Lotus. Explaining his role in the short animation, FlyLo tweeted that “Seeing Blade Runner imagery set to my music was a beautiful feeling,” and that, “Doing something with Watanabe was a dream of mine. Cowboy Bebop is one of the greatest!”
