Angelina Jolie Delves Into the Khmer Rouge With ‘First They Killed My Father’ Trailer
Based on memoirs by Loing Ung.
First They Killed My Father is a new film based on the eponymous memoir by Loing Ung and is directed by Angelina Jolie. The Netflix film follows 5-year-old Ung serving under the Khmer Rouge as a child soldier during the Cambodian genocide in 1975. The reign lasted for four years in which nearly 2 million Cambodians died. According to Jolie’s Vanity Fair profile, the casting process was met with some controversy in which the children were offered money only to have it taken away, which Jolie denies. A powerful trailer stresses the fact that a child will remember what they see with their eyes.
First They Killed My Father will arrive on Netflix on September 15, check out the trailer above.
