Vintage NASA Memorabilia Expected to Fetch Nearly $5 Million USD on eBay
Part of Sotheby’s first-ever “Space Exploration” auction.
At the end of May we reported that Neil Armstrong’s moon bag from the Apollo 11 space mission was expected to fetch $4 million USD at auction and now we have a look at some of the other items in the lot. The first-ever “Space Exploration” live auction by Sotheby’s that includes the aforementioned bag will kick off on eBay on Thursday, July 20 — the 48th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Featuring 173 lots of memorabilia, toys, pictures and more from the Gemini, Apollo and Mercury missions, the collection is estimated to fetch $2.9-$5.3 million.
Notable items include Armstsrong’s lunar sample return bag ($2-$4 million USD), an Apollo command module reaction-control system ($2,500-$3,500 USD), Apollo crew mission emblems ($1,200-$1,800 USD), signed Snoopy mascot for Apollo 10 LM crew ($2,000-$3,000), a Gemini G1C spacesuit thermal coverlayer ($40,000-$60,000 USD), a space shuttle orbiter computer processor ($5,000-$7,000 USD), Apollo 11 emblem cover life insurance for Buzz Aldrin’s family ($12,000-$18,000 USD) and Apollo 14 docking ring pyrotechnic charge holder ($20,000-$30,000 USD).
