'The Sleep Curse' Portrays the Horrors of Sleep Deprivation
Forget about sleeping after watching this trailer.
Hong Kong director Herman Yau’s latest film explores the terrible consequences of trying to alter one’s natural circadian rhythm. A neurology professor (veteran actor Anthony Wong) questions the role of sleep in society, ultimately settling upon the conclusion that it is a hindrance to human progress. Once he is approached by an old flame (Jojo Goh) who implores him to find a cure for her brother’s insomnia, the professor becomes entangled in a web of pseudo-science and black magic in a plot that leads him to the dark past of his cursed father, who worked as a translator for the Japanese army during their occupation of Hong Kong. Clocking in at 102 minutes of gore and suspense, look for The Sleep Curse to hit cinemas on May 18.
