An Untitled Star Wars Anthology Film Will Release in 2020
What Star Wars character do you want to see on the big screen next?
The two most recent Star Wars films were highly successful in terms of box-office numbers as well as what they did to enrich the canonized universe that began in 1977. While The Force Awakens picked up where Return of the Jedi left off in 1983, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — the first of three anthology films — managed to end a 40-year-long debate about the Death Star’s one exploited weakness. The second anthology installment will be the upcoming Han Solo prequel film, but on the topic of the third installment, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say,
“Yes. We haven’t identified it yet, but yes. We have a couple of things right now that we’re circling, and we’ll make a decision between the two pretty shortly,” Kennedy says. “It’s probably for 2020, and we will make a decision by June.”
The internet speculators believe this third anthology film will either be a prequel film dedicated to Obi Wan Kenobi or Boba Fett, but of course there are many other characters to choose from. Kennedy says the film is planned to release after Episode IX, and that more details will be officially announced by June.
