Watch Hannibal Buress Give a Brutally Honest Commencement Speech to The Class of 2017
The comedian highlights the realities of post-graduation life.
Comedian Hannibal Buress appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Friday night to address the all the fresh graduates of the world with some sound pieces of advice. In the speech, Buress talks about what life is like post-graduation and what is to expected upon entering the real world.
“You don’t have to worry about the Freshman 15 in the real world because you most likely won’t be able to afford food,” said Buress in the sketch. “The real world is terrible, but if you want to keep running for another two to six years, there’s always grad school.” Buress goes on to lay out what new graduates can expect now that school is over, more specifically what their living situation is going to be like. “Your parents aren’t going to be too happy about the whole moving back in thing. The basement is going to be harsh.”
Buress goes on to talk about his early career as a comedian, and how he found inspiration from Martin Lawrence’s character in the sitcom Martin. “I specifically remember season 3 of the show, where Martin got fired from his radio job and spent the next couple of episodes looking for work…eventually he ended up working on a TV show that he ended up hosting. None of you are going to get that lucky because it was a TV show…it isn’t reality. Binge watching a TV show can help bring you joy when you’re jobless.”
