Sofia Coppola Wins Best Director at Cannes 2017 for 'The Beguiled'
The second woman ever to win the prestigious award.

Earlier this year we previewed Sofia Coppola’s initial trailer for her film The Beguiled. Adapted from the book A Painted Devil, Coppola’s screen version tells the tale of a wounded soldier who is cared for and brought back to safety by a young woman. As was recently reported, the acclaimed filmmaker just picked up the Best Director prize at Cannes while making some history in the process. Following in the footsteps of Soviet filmmaker Yuliya Solntseva for her film project The Chronicle of Flaming Years, Coppola officially becomes the second woman ever to win the prestigious award.
