Watch the First Trailer to the Live-Action 'Gintama' Film
What would happen if Edo-period Japan was conquered by aliens.
2017 looks to be a stellar year for live-action adaptions. Following hard hitters such as Ghost in the Shell, production studios are looking to turn more manga/anime series into blockbuster films. Warner Bros. Japan recently released the first trailer for its latest live-action adaptation, Gintama. Based on the hit Weekly Shōnen Jump manga series, the film will focus on how samurai Gintoki Sakata deals with living in Edo-period Japan after it has been conquered by aliens. The live-action Gintama film is set to open in Japan July 14, but no news yet on a wider international release. Stay tuned for more details when they become available.
