Watch Disney's 'Star Wars' Land Theme Park Come to Life
A BTS look at the 14-acre, fully immersive attraction.
Two years ago, Disney announced plans to add a Star Wars land to the California and Florida parks that will mark Disney’s “largest single themed land expansion ever.” Today, Disney Parks Imagineers and Lucasfilm Story Group reveal more details on the massive project, including a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the inspiration, design process and construction of the immersive parks.
The park will be unlike others in that it will be an extension of the Star Wars universe, rather than a recreation of what fans have already seen on the screens, and one that visitors will be able to be a part of and play a character in their own right. The 14-acre attraction will be set in the current trilogy of the Star Wars franchise, with style and aesthetics based on original concept drawings by artist Ralph McQuarrie. Other details include that guests will be able to pilot Falcons themselves, have the option to join a faction (choosing to side with smugglers, the Resistance or the First Order) and be in the middle of live action scenes for a totally immersive experience. Disney Imagineering creative executive Scott Trowbridge described the project as “the most epic attraction that we’ve ever undertaken.”
Disney’s Star Wars land theme park is planned to open in 2019.
