Watch Martin Scorsese's Rare 1990 Giorgio Armani Documentary
A hidden gem for film buffs and fashion devotees alike.
In 1990, acclaimed American filmmaker Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about the famed fashion designer Giorgio Armani. Titled Made in Milan, the short film follows the Italian designer’s life in the fashion capital, giving a first-person account of his creative process, his family and the influence of Milan on his work. The earnestly grainy film gives an intimate look at lunch meetings, the lavish Armani headquarters, childhood photos of Armani himself, while also touching on topics such as how Armani’s parents formed his definition of luxury, the philosophy of “interior elegance” over material wealth and how “movies were [Armani's] first real love.” Made in Milan was unsurfaced by M2M TV, which released a 10-minute exclusive cut of the original 20-minute feature just days before Armani’s Fall/Winter 2017 show at Milan Fashion Week.
“Made in Milan predates the current landscape of fashion films which is why M2M felt so compelled to display this seminal piece of work,” commented M2M’s Susan Hootstein.
