Netflix has just released the official trailer for its upcoming sci-fi thriller called The Discovery. The motion picture, directed by Charlie McDowell, centers upon the existence of an afterlife which was proved by a scientist played by iconic American actor Robert Redford. Shortly after announcing this breakthrough, thousands upon thousands of people across the globe begin committing suicide to get a firsthand experience of this spiritual world. After this mass self-immolation, the scientist immediately goes into solitude.

Part two of the film follows the scientist’s son (Jason Segel) after a year has passed since the discovery. Segel decides to pay a visit to his father’s underground lab to presumably unearth more details regarding the controversial finding. During his hunt, he becomes moonstruck over a mysterious woman (Rooney Mara). All in all, the film is equal parts brooding and trippy.

Watch the first official trailer above and then let us know your thoughts. The Discovery will launch on Netflix starting March 31.
