Takahiro Miyashita Talks About His Time at TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist and Number (N)ine
The designer talks Number (N)ine and meeting Undercover’s Jun Takahashi.

It’s been a quiet time for TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist, who we last featured in 2015. The brand’s founder, Takahiro Miyashita, isn’t known for giving interviews so it was a surprise to see Style Zeitgeist speaking to the elusive designer and touching on several topics, including why he left Number (N)ine and his time with Undercover’s Jun Takahashi.
On his time at Number (N)ine:
Number (N)ine was a band, it was a big company, and often I did not get to do what I wanted. So I thought that I need to be a completely independent designer. I wanted to be a solo singer. Just like John Lennon who quit The Beatles to be John Lennon. I feel more free to design for my own label. The clothes are closer to my mind than Number (N)ine.
On Jun Takahashi from UNDERCOVER:
I think I was twenty when I met Jun, he was already famous. I was beginning at Number (N)ine and he called the studio and wanted to see my clothes. The first time he came, I just came out, said “Hello,” and left, because I was nervous. But we have become great friends since. We go drinking together in Tokyo, and I have made music for some of the Undercover’s shows.
