Nike to Set Fire to NYFW With New Collaborations, Retros and Much More
Nike’s got now, not next.
For this year’s New York Fashion Week, Nike will be showcasing what it means to be New York made. As a celebration of the city’s constant collision of sport and creativity, NYFW will seemingly be taken over by the Swoosh from uptown to downtown. Homage will be paid to the sport of basketball and its influence within streetwear and the fashion world overall. Throughout fashion week, the sportswear giant will host launches alongside notable and innovative collaborators to place a spin on Nike classics in addition to retros, new silhouettes and unforgettable experiences to go along with them.
Kicking things off will be a collaborative effort from Comme des Garçons and NikeLab. The Japanese line will provide its own take on the classic Nike Dunk silhouette via the brain of head designer, Rei Kawakubo. The CDG x NikeLab Dunk Hi Retro is expected to launch on February 8 in New York City at Commes des Garcons’s boutique in Chelsea, as well as Dover Street Market.
As an ode to popular basketball silhouettes, the Swoosh has also teamed up with KITH to launch the commemorative “5 Decades of Basketball” collection. Throughout the offering you’ll find high quality editions of the Air Force 1 Sport Lux, Blazer Studio Low, Air Foamposite Pro, Air Zoom Generation and brand new model in the Flight Bonafide. This special Nike Sportswear range will release at KITH on February 10 and will be followed by a global launch on February 18.
Riccardo Tisci joins in on the fun by adding another joint effort to his existing selection alongside Nike. This time around a chukka silhouette is fused with the Nike Dunk which results in the NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka. Set to be delivered in three colorways, the trio will be complemented by Nike Destroyer jackets by artist Eric Elms. The RT x NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka will drop on February 10 in a special NikeLab location within one of the city’s biggest retail pioneers, Bergdorf Goodman.
Moving uptown, VLONE and its co-founder A$AP Bari make its fans’s dreams come true with the highly anticipated VLONE x Nike Air Force 1. Frequently teased over the past few months the silhouette pays tribute to the past, present and future of Harlem’s legendary basketball culture. The VLONE x Nike Air Force 1 is expected to launch on February 11 at a special pop-up experience in Harlem.
