Cuba's First Five-Star Hotel Is Set to Open Later This Year

In his last few months in office, President Obama lifted the restriction on the amount of cigars and rum a traveler returning back to the United States could bring in from Cuba, with a caveat that it was all for personal use. Since lifting the embargo with Cuba, it seems those in search of wanderlust have put the country high up on their to-do lists. Seeing an increase in visitors and realizing that American companies still can’t build in Cuba, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group Kempinski grabbed opportunity by the foot and will open Cuba’s first five-star hotel, the Gran Hotel Kempinski Manzana La Habana, later this year.
The hotel will be housed inside the historical Manzana de Gómez building in the heart of Old Havana. Located within walking distance of many local attractions, guests will have views of the Capitol, the Great Theater of Havana and El Floridita from not only their rooms but also from the rooftop pool and lounge area. Two-hundred forty-six vibrantly colored rooms and suites will house guests while they enjoy a Swiss Resense spa, three restaurants, lobby bar, rooftop terrace with swimming pool, in-house cigar lounge, and all important free Wi-Fi.
