Watch How The North Face Nuptse Jacket Became an International Staple
The essential outerwear coat is spotlighted in a new mini-doc.
Named after a mountain in Nepal, The North Face Nuptse Jacket has transcended its initial purpose as an outerwear piece for alpinists. The padded-down coat is not only a staple item for climbers, but it’s a mainstay in hip-hop culture. To further commemorate its 25th birthday this year, the outdoor stalwart created a mini-documentary relaying the Nuptse’s widespread influence. The four-minute clip features professional German alpinist David Göttler, GORE-TEX® fanatic Joey Ones from The Bronx, acclaimed Parisian DJ/Curator Teri Latex, and more.
“TNF is for the mountains, of course, it’s Alpine gear. I live in the city, but if anybody lives in New York, everybody knows one minute it could be warm, the next minute it could be cold and the next minute it could be raining,” said Joey Ones. “When you throw that joint on, you’re going to feel like Mike Tyson in the ring.”
