Helping to alleviate the winter blues, The New York Times has published a 52-strong list of top travel destinations for the year ahead. Canada tops the pile thanks to its year-long celebration of its 150th birthday, with all national parks offering free admission and major parties planned in Montreal and Ottawa. Elsewhere, factors including vibrant food scenes (Tijuana), nighttime balloon rides across stunning landscapes (Atacama Desert), and the arrival of cutting-edge artistic venues (Hamburg) helped propel destinations to the top end of the list.

See the 10 best places to start saving for this year below.

1. Canada

2. Atacama Desert, Chile

3. Agra, India

4. Zermatt, Switzerland

5. Botswana

6. Dubrovnik, Croatia
