“Lenny Belardo is no ordinary Pope.”
That’s the premise behind Sky, CANAL+, and HBO’s upcoming joint production, The Young Pope. Teased earlier this summer, The Young Pope is helmed by Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino (the Oscar-winning director behind last year’s critically-acclaimed Youth) and stars none other than Jude Law as the aforementioned Belardo — also known as Pius XIII, the youngest pontiff in the history of the papacy and the first American to ever become His Holiness.
A dark modern-day drama with papal Rome as its backdrop, The Young Pope premieres on Sky Atlantic October 27 and will make its way to HBO in February of 2017.
