Moving its flagship retail operation from the western edge of SoHo to the heart of the neighborhood, the newest Rick Owens store has opened its doors in downtown Manhattan. Situated on the intersection of Crosby Street and Howard Street, the 6000-square-foot space replaces the now-closed Hudson Street location as the one-stop shop for everything Rick from mainline runway pieces, to DRKSHDW staples, to adidas footwear, to Michele Lamy’s Hunrod jewelry.

Deviating from the usual Rick Owens formula in which the designer himself meticulously maps out the space, Rick’s wife and muse, Michele Lamy, took the reins for the new location. Constructed using four principal materials–concrete, mirror, steel and white painted sheetrock–the space is minimal and modern, letting the garments and objects on display speak for themselves. Inside, the first floor is a gallery-like space centered around Rick’s footwear and accessories with sculptural rocks crafted from various materials scattered about. The upper level is a more traditional retail experience which plays host to the full collection of Rick Owens ready-to-wear for both men and women. In reference to Michele’s (Hun’s) designing of the space, Rick said the following:

“In the same way that I think runway shows are collective ceremonies of beauty and the clothes I sell are relics of those ceremonies, I think of Hun’s freestyle installation and construction of this space with our rocks as a magic act. I won’t be there to mute her energy – this is all about her in a cage with a wild coyote. This is an intimate store about creation, conflict, collaboration and love.”
