New Lab Opens in Historical Brooklyn Navy Yard
An innovative tech workspace.

Repurposing the historical Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York, ‘New Lab’ is a newly opened 84,000 square foot tech workspace that specializes in robotics, AI, nanotechnology and connected devices. Known as the site where the USS Arizona was built and where anesthesia was first invented, the Navy Yard has undergone major development since 2012. Led by David Belt of Macro Sea, the project sought to provide a space for hardware-centric designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs. The design team has created a variety of offices and private studios with interior plazas containing colorful furnishings. Emphasizing the pre-existing steel trusswork, a system of suspended bridges extends from from the building’s existing gantry cranes to create a series of social spaces and exhibition galleries.
