'Tsukiji Wonderland' Trailer Documents the Happenings at the World's Most Famous Fish Market
Commemorating the location where madness meets maguro.
If you’ve ever visited Tokyo, chances are you’ve heard of the famous Tsukiji Fish Market. Considered by locals and foodies around the world as one of the international wonders of food, the market operates from the early mornings to accommodate the incoming ships and planes that funnel tons of seafood through its gates. Wholesale dealers congregate in the “Inner Market” for auctions that sound more like vocal warfare to the unaware, while the “Outer Market” is home to some of the best in kitchen goods, food necessities, groceries and of course, the finest sushi in the world.
Tsujiki Wonderland is a documentary shot to commemorate the 80-year-old complex’s preparation to relocate to Toyosu, Koto as the country plans for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The film will feature chefs and food experts from around the world speaking of the famed location and its global importance, one of whom is Jiro Dreams of Sushi‘s very own Jiro Ono. Check out the trailer above and look for a release in Japanese theaters on October 16.
