Get the Lowdown on Tesla's Gargantuan Gigafactory

In the middle of the Nevada desert, one of humankind’s greatest architectural propositions is gradually taking shape in the form of the Tesla Gigafactory. The crown jewel in the electric car company’s unprecedented assembly line, the Gigafactory will be the largest building in the world when completed, clocking in at a vast 6 million square feet — enough to accommodate 93 Boeing 747 jets. Devoted solely to producing battery packs en-masse, most importantly for the upcoming Model 3, the Gigafactory will help to drive down the cost of lithium-ion car batteries by 30%, thereby passing the savings onto the consumer. WIRED visited the Gigafactory when it was first unveiled to the media earlier this week, providing a first look at the already-gargantuan facility.
