Coinciding with the rise of its economy, China’s nightlife has been experiencing an interesting development. Its economic power brought along a varied and colorful palette of events and parties across the country. There, a young collective, called STD, an abbreviation for Sonically Transmitted Disease, has been catering the city’s cultural landscape with a sophisticated curation of famous DJs and music artists from overseas. Through to their two club venues, Arkham and Arcade, STD reaches thousands of music lovers and avant-gardes in Shanghai, which has led them to become one of China’s most sought-after music tastemakers.
