Mutants Become Victims of Police Brutality in This Sci-Fi Short Film
A chilling look at a society not too different from our own.
While superheroes being suppressed and controlled by society at large is a theme that pops up time and again in crowd-pleasing flicks by Marvel and DC Comics — the plot of Captain America: Civil War revolves around the Superhuman Registration Act — this gritty indie sci-fi short film by director Jeff Chan casts the issue in an entirely more relatable light. Titled Code 8, the film follows a day in the life of a young man (Robbie Amell) belonging to the underclass of “Specials” who possess superpowers, but are relegated to severe police surveillance and must make a living at the fringes of society doing menial work. One day, a confrontation with the police pushes the man to reveal his unknown power, sparking a city-wide manhunt.
Also starring Sung Kang and Aaron Abrams, Code 8 has already surpassed its crowdfunding goal in two days. Find out more information online here.
