J. Cole Disses Kanye West and His Associates on "False Prophets"
The harsh truth?
Following his new album announcement yesterday, J. Cole also shared a new 40-minute documentary called Eyez featuring a montage of new singles from his upcoming 4 Your Eyez Only LP. One of the songs, “False Prophets,” appears to be some wordplay aimed directly at Kanye West. In his opening verse, the Carolina rapper had this to say:
Life is a balance/You lose your grip you could slip into an abyss/No doubt, you see these n****s trippin’/Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star/ And we can’t look away due to the days when he caught our hearts/He’s falling apart but we deny it/ Justifying the half-assed shit he drop, we always buy it.
When he tell us he a genius but it’s clearer lately/ It’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately/There was a time when this n***a was my hero maybe/That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take/’Cause I believed him when he said his shit was purer and he the type of n***a swear he real but all around is fake.
The Dreamvillain emcee appeared to also take aim at Kanye’s inner circle:
The women, the d*ckriders, you know, the yes men/ Nobody with the balls to say something to contest him/So it grows out of control/ Until the person that he truly was all along is starting to show
J. Cole would eventually close out the song on the note of “trend hopping”:
Here’s a new style bubblin’ up then they bite that shit, damn. That’s what I get for lyin’ to myself. Well fuck it, what’s more important is that he’s cryin out for help. While the world’s eggin him on, I’m beggin him to stop it. Playin’ his old shit, knowin’ he ain’t top it….false prophets.
