Legendary English singer, songwriter and producer George Michael has passed away peacefully at home on Christmas day at the age of 53. The pop superstar was a former member of the British musical duo Wham! and sold more than 100 million records worldwide, including hits such as “Last Christmas” and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” In a statement, Michael’s publicist commented that “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.” At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Thames Valley Police reportedly responded to a call from the singer’s Oxfordshire, England home. George reportedly died from heart failure. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”
