Zaha Hadid Architects have been selected to design a humongous soccer stadium constructed out of only timber. The structure, intended for the British football club Forest Green Rovers, will be able to seat approximately 5,000 people and will feature a wave-like bowl design. Not only will it presumably be the world’s first wooden stadium, but it will also be the the greenest. According to Dezeen, the structure will be “powered by sustainable energy resources.”
Forest Green Rovers chairman Dale Vince said that “The importance of using wood is not only that it’s a naturally occurring material, it has very low carbon content – about as low as it gets for a building material.” Having added: ”Our new stadium will have the lowest carbon content of any stadium in the world. This really will be the greenest football stadium in the world.”
