Nice Kicks & PUMA Combine Two Silhouettes to Create the Basket-Suede
An homage to American sprinters and Olympic medalists Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

Back in 1968 at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City, American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood atop the medal stand following their performances in the 200 meter final, raising black-gloved fists while sporting Olympic Project for Human Rights badges as their national anthem was played. Nice Kicks is paying homage to the iconic act of pride and conviction this month with a nod to Smith and Carlos and the kicks Smith was sporting on the podium: the PUMA Suede.
Combining the Suede’s iconic look with the perforated leather of PUMA’s Basket silhouette, the unique Basket-Suede design also employs suede paneling throughout while metallic gold branding pays homage to Smith’s gold medal. Finally, dual-branded tongues and heels decorate each pair while the Olympic Rings appear on the insoles.
The limited-edition Basket-Suede is due out this Saturday, November 5, at all three Nice Kicks locations and shopnicekicks.com.
