At the beginning of this year, Yasiin Bey revealed plans to divorce himself from the entertainment industry. Specifically, the rapper formerly known as Mos Def announced that he was retiring from hip-hop and acting. To clarify his retirement announcement, Yasiin Bey has taken to Facebook to officially confirm the news. “I’m retiring this year for real,” he explained. “I’m retiring, guys!” However, the Black On Both Sides rapper does have a swansong planned. “Exclusive new material” was pitched to Jay Z and TIDAL, while “one or two” new films will feature Yasiin Bey. “I’m grateful to have had the career that I’ve been able to enjoy, as I say to many people… my brother and sisters, thank you for spending your money and more importantly your time,” he concluded. You can view his full statement below. Most recently, Yasiin Bey resurfaced for two new records: “Hymn” and “Seaside Panic Room.”
