Werner Herzog Goes 'Into The Inferno' for Netflix
“The fury of nature exposes us all.”
Beloved German director Werner Herzog already has one volcano-centric film on the way with Salt and Fire (starring Michael Shannon and Gael García Bernal), but if you can’t wait for that drama to hit theaters, then Herzog has something to tide you over until then: a brand new documentary. Dubbed Into The Inferno, the upcoming release explores active volcanoes in Indonesia, Iceland and Ethiopia alongside volcanologist and co-director Clive Oppenheimer — Herzog and Oppenheimer met while filming 2007’s Encounters at the End of the World in Antarctica — as the two examine “the belief systems that human beings have created around the fiery phenomena.” As Herzog himself ominously puts it, “volcanoes could not care less what we are doing up here.”
Into The Inferno will premiere October 28 on Netflix.
