Ghibli-Produced 'Ronja, the Robber's Daughter' Will Start Streaming on Amazon Prime
The studio lives on.
Though fans were devastated at the 2014 news that Studio Ghibli would stop film production due to co-founder Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement, they’ll be happy to know the studio has been keeping busy with external productions like The Red Turtle and a TV series, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter. The 26-episode series is an adaptation of a fantasy novel by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, the mind behind Pippi Longstocking. The show will follow a young girl who is the lone child to the leader of a famous band of thieves. The plot develops as she happens to befriend the only son to the leader of a rivalling band of thieves.
Ghibli mastermind, Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki will be directing the animated series, while X-Files‘ star Gillian Anderson will be featured as narrator. Check out the clip above for a look at the original Japanese version, and keep an eye out as the English dubbed episodes make their appearance on Amazon Prime later this year.
