This Pokémon 20th Anniversary Super Bowl Ad Will Give You the Feels
I want to be the very best.
Believe it or not, Pokémon turns 20 this year. To celebrate this monumental anniversary, the Pokémon Company International has unveiled a new Super Bowl commercial that is set to air on Sunday, February 7. Shot in Rio de Janeiro, the 1-minute clip showcases the same themes of ambition and motivation that made the television series of our childhoods such a driving force. J.C. Smith, Senior Director of Consumer Marketing of the company, has said of the campaign, “For 20 years, the Pokémon world has inspired fans to train hard and have fun. This ad is reflective of that passion, and I can’t think of a bigger stage to share this story than the Super Bowl.”
Also coinciding with the anniversary is the forthcoming gaming title Pokkén Tournament, which will be a battle-based release available for the Wii U console this spring. In addition, a revolutionary GPS-enhanced mobile game will be released later this year, entitled Pokémon GO. An abridged 30-second version of the Pokémon Super Bowl commercial will air at the start of the third quarter of Super Bowl 50. In the mean time, check out the full ad above.
