Take a look into the making of The Martian in this VFX reel and preview the tremendous efforts that make the film a nominee in this year’s Oscar race for Best Visual Effects. CGI and digital effects were enacted upon 425 shots to create the illusion of Mars, demonstrated in repeated color and landscape adjustment from an initial green-screen shot. More subtle changes saw the addition of reflections onto Matt Damon’s glass helmet.
