Maison Margiela Mixes and Matches for Its 2016 Fall/Winter Collection
Irreverent and eccentric.
John Galliano’s Maison Margiela show was all about balancing the designer’s penchant for irreverent, maximalist showmanship with the French house’s stealthy sense of luxury. The formerly disgraced designer nodded toward contemporary fashion trends by sending models down the catwalk in bomber jackets and camel topcoats that would look right at home on the high street, but many of these pieces were paired with skintight short shorts and neoprene sleeves that nodded toward a dystopian vision of fall outerwear. Asymmetrical leather trenches with contrasting red sleeves, oversized cardigans and fuzzy sweatpants were all classically Margiela, though — aesthetic and yet eccentric through and through.
