Armed with a star-studded audience including the likes of Kanye West, Lewis Hamilton, Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd, Alexander Wang’s NYFW show held on the pier of the Hudson River paid homage to his roots. The collection, which marks the 10-year anniversary of his eponymous label, acted as a homecoming of sorts, as this was his first show after ending his stint as creative director for Balenciaga. The designer hinted at a return of his signature laid-back style, via a reset button on a recent Instagram post. The collection drew inspiration from streetwear and military uniforms, juxtaposed with structured silks and clean stripes. There was also a resurgence of ’90s grunge complete with overalls, plaid and slouchy trousers — not to mention, a comeback of his classic oversized tees. Wang stuck to his traditional tonal black colors while incorporating bits of red and gold into the lineup.
